Thank-You!

Our Empty Bowls celebration was a great success! I am SO proud of all the grade 5 students for all their hard work, dedication and wonderful performances last night! Way to go! It was a fun, but VERY busy day! Students practiced and polished, sliced and diced, carried tables and instruments, and best of all, had a chance to show our school what they had learned about poverty in Manitoba!

Best of all, we were able to raise $1600.00 for Winnipeg Harvest! Bravo!

I would also like to take this time to say a VERY special thank-you to all the staff at LM for supporting this project; specifically: Mrs. Braccio in the foods lab (you are wonderful!), Mrs. Van Nice and Mrs. Ahns in the Art department, Mrs. Wog for the music presentations, and the parents who also volunteered their time to help us get ready.

I would also like to thank Mrs. Janice Wheeler and Mrs. Cathy McKinnon who were here last night representing Winnipeg Harvest. Both Janice and Cathy are retired teachers who volunteer at Harvest regularly. They both came out to our classrooms in January to teach about poverty in Winnipeg, and also gave us our 'tours' through the Winnipeg Harvest warehouse on our field-trip. Janice and Cathy worked quietly behind the scenes all evening helping set-up, clean-up, jar-bar, supervision and many other roles. A tremendous thank-you to them! You have been wonderful!

Finally, I would like to thank the parents. Teaching empathy and compassion starts at home and we are thankful for all your support throughout this project. Your generous donations are greatly appreciated and will be forwarded to Winnipeg Harvest directly!

That's it for now! Thanks!!
